In addition to the enrichment programs listed below, the Academy of St. Paul & St. Ann also offers:
ITV (Instructional Television) is a program used throughout the Archdiocese of New York to promote student self-confidence, better writing skills and social issues awareness.
Each year, students at Academy of St. Paul & St. Ann research, write, edit and produce a video on a current and hot topic. To date, our topics have included: "Should Marijuana Be Legal?", "Cancer, Come On There Has To Be A Cure.", and "Taking a Stand (or a seat) For The National Anthem."
In 2015, one of our students won an ITV Eddy Award for her compelling interview (Abigaile Jeudy - Best Interview with Police Lieutenant Joseph Monaco of the Yonkers PD). In 2016, student Yael Ramirez was also nominated. We hope for continued success in future years!
The Academy of St. Paul & St. Ann Drama Club has taken our school to places never thought possible.
Students have developed the ability to act, speak clearly and confidently in front of an audience and most of all show off their incredible talents.
In 2015, our school put on its first full-length musical production. It was easy to see from the response of parents, teachers and students, the DRAMA CLUB was here to stay.
Productions To Date:
Students sing in choir to enhance liturgy and to worship God using their talents. Students sing each week at our Friday School Mass and at various other school events.
All students are encouraged to join our choir.
It is our goal at Academy of St. Paul & St. Ann to foster a love of reading in our students. A good reader has the best chance of being a successful and life long learner. The STAR Reading Program puts students on the track of becoming successful readers and learners.
Twice a year students are given the STAR Reading Test. This test determines a student's reading level. Using the results of the STAR Reading Test, students are given reading level-appropriate materials to read. Students then take quizzes on these readings working toward their quarterly goals.
So, when you hear our students saying things like, "I have to take a quiz" or "I gotta get a new book to read" they are referring to our STAR Reading Program.
This STAR Reading program is headed by Dr. Fanon Howell and Ms. Damary Gonzalez. Their constant support and the support of the Carmel Hill Program make this program possible.
Through the help of Paul Effman Music, students are now receiving musical instrument lessons right in our school. The sounds of musical instruments can be heard playing in our school.
Many studies have shown that students who play musical instruments fare better not only in school but in life. Music is welcome here!
