St. Paul School has been educating God's Children in East Harlem since 1870. Started by the Sisters of Charity, our school has educated thousands of fine young men and women. Our history and mission parallels the mission of The Archdiocese of New York, "to serve God through Catholic education to anyone who heeds his word."
St. Paul School has benefitted through the generosity of philanthropist William Ruane. Mr. Ruane's generosity helped our school by creating a new face for St. Paul School both externally and internally. Although Mr. Ruane has passed away, his organization called The Carmel Hill Program still provides tuition assistance to over 30 students. They also provide support for our Art and Physical Education Program. In the year 2020, St. Paul School celebrated 150 years of Catholic Education, and has now become the campus for the newly formed Academy of St. Paul & St. Ann.
St. Ann School opened in 1926. As a pioneer in personalized learning, St. Ann established themselves as "The Personal School" in 2014, and has been selected for numerous awards and honors including the prestigious Blackboard Award for Outstanding New York City School. St. Ann has also been profiled as a "Top School to Visit" by Getting Smart, featured as a New York State Education Department "Ed Tech Innovator," and named one of "New York City's Best Private Schools" by New York Family. In addition, St. Ann has become an internationally recognized "model school" for personalized instruction, with over 200 educators from North America, Asia, and Europe visiting to learn its best practices.
St. Ann School guarantees every child will receive individualized instruction and a customized academic plan. "The Personal School" is not only our teaching style, it is also our call to action. We believe God calls every child by name, and we commit to help each one find their special purpose in life. These values will continue as we pursue our common future with St. Paul School, as Academy of St. Paul & St. Ann.
